CONSTITUTION OF THE GOSPEL DEFENCE LEAGUE

Name

The name shall be the Gospel Defence League, hereinafter referred to as the League.

Location

The Head Office of the League shall be situated within Cape Town.

Objectives

The objectives shall be:

a.    To proclaim the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ as that Gospel is set forth in Holy Scripture and generally affirm in the historic creeds of Christendom,

b.    To oppose, by such means as shall be consistent with the conservative-evangelical religious nature of the League and its non-denominational character, any attempts to secularise the Gospel, deny its supernatural elements, or question the full substantial Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The League professes itself to be unreservedly opposed to the World Council of Churches (and any of its affiliated organisations), as that body is presently constituted and motivated, and more particularly, the activities of that body in supporting, both morally and financially, terrorist organisations which believe that social and political objectives can be achieved by violence and terrorism.

Membership

Membership shall be open to all Christians who accept this constitution and agree to promote the objectives as herein defined.

Administration

a.    The administration of the League shall vest in an executive committee of no more than 12 members which shall be elected at the first general meeting of the League and shall have the power to co-opt. The elect members shall serve for a period of one year, or until the Annual General meeting. Such members shall be open for re-election at successive annual general meetings. The Committee shall, from its own members, appoint a Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, who shall be the officers of the League. A quorum shall be five members.

b.    The Executive Committee shall open an account with a recognized bank into which all moneys donated, or contributed by way of collections at meetings, shall be deposited. The Committee shall appoint three of its members as authorised signatories to operate such an account. The signatures of any two of them shall be necessary to authorise cash withdrawals, or cheque payments. The Committee shall have power to transfer funds from the said account to savings accounts in any recognised bank, or building society, or invest funds by way of fixed deposits in any such institution. The financial year shall end on the 31st March.

c.    The Committee shall have power to acquire by purchase, donation, lease, or in any other manner, property both movable and immovable and to sell, transfer, donate, concede, lend and lease the same as shall be deemed desirable, or required by the Committee for the purpose of advancing the general objectives of the League.

Trustees

1.    Legal ownership of all assets of the League shall vest in the officers of the League who shall therefore be deemed "The Trustees for the time being of the Gospel Defence League".

2.    The signatures for two Trustees are sufficient for all acts, or deeds required to be signed by the said Trustees in that capacity. The Trustees shall have no power in any way to deal with the property, or assets, of the League save upon the direction and instruction of the Executive Committee, provided always that the terms of the constitution are not in any way departed from, or varied, thereby,

3.    Should it become necessary at any time for any of the assets of the League including immovable property, to be sold, or otherwise, transferred, or alienated, the Trustees shall sign all necessary documents thereto upon receiving a written resolution passed by a duly convened meeting of the Committee,

4.    The Trustees shall have power to mortgage and encumber any of the assets of the League including immovable property subject to a similar resolution of the Committee,

5.    The Committee may demand the resignation of any Trustee whose teaching and conduct reveals a departure from the terms of the Constitution, or evidence, showing a lack of sympathy, or agreement, with the objectives, or who is physically incapable of performing his, or her, duties.

Formation of Branches

The formation of Branches shall be at the discretion of the Committee which shall have the power to approve the appointment of officials. All movable and immovable assets of any such branches shall be vested in the Trustees of the Gospel Defence League.

Amendment to Constitution

The Constitution shall not be altered save by a two-thirds majority at the Annual General Meeting of the League, provided that at least fourteen days' notice shall have been given to members of the League prior to the Annual Meeting, of the amendments proposed to be made.

Dissolution of the League

If, for any reason, the members, by a two-thirds majority at a specially called and duly constituted meeting, decide to dissolve the League, the assets thereof, both movable and immovable, shall not be divided amongst the members but shall be donated, or transferred to any organization, or organisations, holding similar objectives to those of the Gospel Defence League in such a manner as shall be determined by a two-thirds·majority of the members then present.

A meeting called to dissolve the League shall be deemed as duly constituted only if, at an Annual General Meeting, at least three months' notice of the intention to call such a meeting has been announced and recorded in the minutes.

The Executive members shall not be held responsible for any debts of the League.

THE NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father, Almighty, maker of Heaven and earth and of all that is, seen and unseen.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God, from God; Light, from Light; True God, from True God; begotten not made, of one substance with the Father. Through Him all things were made, who for us men and for our salvation came down from Heaven, was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man. For us He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered, died and was buried. On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead and His Kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son together He is worshipped and glorified. He spoke through the prophets.

I believe in Christ's holy universal and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

BASIS of FAITH

We believe in the Bible as the inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of God. We accept the Bible as the supreme and final authority for faith and conduct. Matt. 5:18, John 10:35, 2 Timothy 3:16, Hebrews 1:1, 1 Peter 1:25, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Jude 3

We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:18-20, John 1:1-3

We believe in the absolute deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, the authenticity of His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection and His ascension to the right hand of the Father in Heaven. We believe in the personal and bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ. John 14:6. Acts 2:22-24, Acts 4:12, 1 Corinthians 15:3-6, Revelation 19:11-16

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. We believe He gives life, He sanctifies, and He empowers and comforts all believers. Matthew 28:18-20, John 16:5-15, 2 Corinthians 13:14

We believe that man's rebellion against God resulted in the fall and the spread of sin to every human being. All men are guilty of transgressing God's Holy Laws and are incapable of saving themselves. We believe that man is saved through repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ. Justification is by the grace of God alone. Romans 5:12, 18-19; 1 Timothy 2:5-6; Ephesians 2:1-10

We believe that the Church is the Body of Christ, composed of all true believers. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting damnation. John 5:28-29; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11-15
