Dear Friends,

The African National Congress and its alliance partner, the Communist Party (ANC/SACP), often speak about continuing “revolutionary change,” an ongoing “national-democratic revolution,” and the need for a “radical transformation of society.” They believe that such a “transformation” should primarily be achieved by the “socialisation” of young people through a “democratised education.”

In June 2009 a Report of the Ministerial Committee on Transformation and Social Cohesion and the Elimination of Discrimination in Public Higher Education Institutions was presented to the media by Dr Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education and Training. He said the study had proved that racism, segregated residences, and language barriers still existed at South African universities and that “discrimination, in particular with regard to racism and sexism, is still pervasive in our institutions.” This situation would have to be addressed at a “Stakeholder Summit” which would be held early in 2010. The summit would hopefully develop a “higher education transformation charter” and set up a “permanent stakeholder forum.” In addition, a “monitoring and oversight body” might “be established to complement the work of the Council on Higher Education.” 1)

Dr Nzimande is not only Minister of Higher Education and Training, but also the General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP). The above coercive plans are in line with Communist ideas in other parts of the world. “Equality” and “integration” have, in fact, been established as Communism’s most prized principles. In America, the equality principle has already gone so far that David Kupelian, in his book “The Marketing of Evil,” says: “Today… all cultures and all values are of equal value. The most ignorant, oppressive, suffocating, women-hating kind of culture… is now worthy of equal respect to Western culture, which has provided most of the world’s knowledge, progress, food, medicine, technology, quality of life, representative government, and liberty.” 2) He then lists the major equalities, saying:

  • “All religions are equal: Witches and Satanists are now afforded the same respect as Christians… Good and evil now are afforded equal respect…”
  • “All sexuality is equal: Thousands of same-sex marriage ceremonies were conducted… Even adult-child sex – euphemistically called ‘intergenerational sex’ is making surprising headway…”
  • “All Life is equal: - Animal liberationists do not separate out the human animal, so there is no rational basis for saying that a human has special rights. A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. They’re all mammals.” 3)
This, of course, is taking ‘equality’ to extremes. But though this kind of thinking does not (yet) apply to South Africa we need to take note of it. Absolute non-discrimination, says Kupelian, means that we can no longer enforce standards, make judgments, or distinguish between good and evil, friend and foe.

Race Relations

South Africa is a multi-ethnic country with one of the most liberal constitutions in the world. It presently serves as “one of the world’s major social laboratories,” in which a new type of human behaviour is to be developed. Hitherto, its r ace relations have generally been good, for people have respected each other in their diversity. This attitude has been encouraged by thousands of pastors and millions of Christians who have faithfully preached and obeyed the Gospel and lived by the Holy Spirit. Countless South Africans hold to the Golden Rule and treat others as they want to be treated themselves. (Luke 6:31) They act like Good Samaritans, helping one another in need. (Luke 10:33) They know that they are their brother’s keeper. (Genesis 4:9) They live by the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20) and the Sermon on the Mount. (Matthew 5) They act in the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. The churches seek to obey the Great Commission and thus bring the light of Christ to the continent of Africa. And “we, the people of South Africa… are united in our diversity.” (Preamble of the Constitution) This formula is now being threatened by coerced integration, especially at the Universities.

David Kupelian says about America: “If we were anchored in the Christian moral standards that are responsible for the singular success of the Western world… we’d easily discern the truth of the debate… The farther we stray from the rock of unchanging spiritual principles, the easier it is to get swept away by clever appeals to our feelings – including the need to prove to others that we are tolerant. Increasingly, that means tolerant of corruption or, in some cases, outright evil.” (Op. cit. p. 102)

It has been shown in other parts of the world that the demand for equality, transformation and integration has not stopped at social integration. Some of its promoters quite openly say that the purpose of integration is the corruption an destruction of all religious and ethnic identities. A prominent rabbi in Canada, Abraham Feinberg, for instance, states: “The only way to accomplish the ‘final solution’ to the racial problem is to create a melange (mixture of races) so universal that no one can preen themselves on their ‘racial purity,’ or practise the barbarism necessary to safeguard it. The deliberate encouragement of inter-racial marriages is the only way to hasten this process. We will never be able to completely eliminate racial prejudice, until we eliminate racial separation.” 4)

God-given Marriage Laws

In view of the world-wide pressure to break down all natural and religious identities, let us look at the marriage laws God has given. God Himself has determined our parentage and ethnicity, and we and our descendants must not depart from it. God has separated mankind into divers nations. When united humanity challenged Him at Babel, He said: “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth…” (Genesis 11:1-9

God’s marriage laws are strict. The Bible does not promote multiculturalism, but calls on all men to fulfill the Great Commission within their own ethnic group. The multi-faith, all-embracing, non-discriminatory society which today enjoys such high acclaim, is not mandated by God. He calls it ‘adultery’ when people mix religions, cultures and blood. When He says: “You shall not commit adultery,” (Exodus 20:14) He means everything inherent in unlawful mixing. For instance, the Scripture says that illegitimate children “born of a forbidden marriage,” or their descendants, may not “enter the assembly of the LORD, even down to the tenth generation.” (Deuteronomy 23:2; Numbers 25:6-8; Exodus 34:12-16) When Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem he caused all mixed marriages to be dissolved. “Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners, and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.” (Neh. 9:2; 13:23-27)

Just as God condemns intimate relations or marriages with people who are too different, so he forbids marriages with those who are too closely related. The book of Leviticus is full of prohibitions. “None of you shall approach anyone who is near of kin to him, to uncover his nakedness.” Brother, sister, parent, child, are all out of bounds. (Lev. 18:6, 18; 20:11, 12, 14, 17, 20, 21; Deuteronomy 22:30; 27:20-23).

In the United States interracial intimacy, e.g. dating, marriage, and adoption are on the rise. But this development is being met with resistance – more vocally by Blacks than by Whites. 5) In South Africa, too, interracial intimacy is increasing. So is the adoption of children from other ethnic groups. CR Dickey writes: “An unholy mixing of races in defiance of God’s stated command is the gravest danger now threatening Christian civilization. The patter about the equality of all races, without regard to their inherent character and potentialities, is foolishness. It is not supported by the Bible nor by the facts of life. However, it serves well the purpose of the Communist conspiracy and politicians looking for votes.” 6)

In 2005 the Centre for Policy Studies, Johannesburg, issued a “Social Identity Survey” written by Francis Kornegay entitled “Research Report 106, Race and Ethnic Relations Barometer: A Narrative Analysis of Finding.” It states that South Africa reveals a “multiplicity of identities… All groups (Black, White, Coloured and Asian) reflect strongly held racial and ethnic identification with ethnic loyalties… Yet, all groups appear equally committed to a common South African national identity.” (p. 4)

Reality bears out that the principle “united in our diversity” is a good principle, and it looks, as if Dr Nzimande does not have to worry too much about racism and transformation in South Africa – as long as a Christian spirit prevails. The ANC/SACP’s ongoing “national-democratic revolution” and “radical transformation of society” will not produce better people. Only God can change the heart. If every South African guards his identity and lives by the Golden Rule, doing unto others as he would like them to do to him, then men will respect each other in their ‘diversity,’ and nobody will need to break down God-given boundaries or invade private spaces which a wise providence has created.

May God bless you richly,

D. Scarborough.

What does the Bible say about Reconciliation and Integration?

The ideals of transformation, reconciliation, and integration, which are so popular in South Africa today, are secular-humanistic ones. They signify the abolition of all divisions, so that a unity can be created which will result in peace, justice and goodness. The underlying idea is, that absolute unity is good, but separation, boundaries, diversity, or anything else which causes division – is evil.

Biblical reconciliation, on the other hand, is quite different. It is brought about by a payment for guilt created by personal sin, and it always leads to a change of heart and action. “Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18-19)

The Bible teaches that God created divisions and boundaries which man must not remove. The whole of creation is full of divisions and diversity. The Moral Law, too, is divisive. There are divisions between God and creation, God and man, good and evil, heaven and hell, life and death.

God divides between males and females . He treats them as groups and gives them differing responsibilities. “To the woman he said: ‘I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.’ Then to Adam he said, ‘Because you have heeded the voice of your wife… Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you. And you shall eat the herb of the field in the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken, for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.’” (Genesis 3:14-19)

God divides between husbands and wives . He gives them, too, differing responsibilities, saying: “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Saviour of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. This is a great mystery but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” (Ephesians 5:22f; 1 Timothy 2:8-15)

God tells minor children, as a group, to obey their parents . (Ephesians 6)

Families and households are to be discipled and baptised as groups. (Acts 2:39; 11:14; 16:15 etc)

The Jews remain ethnic Jews , and Paul himself was loyal to his ethnicity (Romans 9:1ff).

Barbarians in the Church remain Barbarians and Scythians remain Scythians.

In fact, Jesus commanded that the “peoples” be discipled as groups:

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18f)

Paul treated the Jews as a group and the heathen peoples as groups – with a different missionary strategy for each:

“Though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews I became as a Jew that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.” (1 Corinthians 9:19-22)

God created the peoples so that each might together seek the Lord, to be blessed or judged as a group:

“And he has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:26-27)

“So the LORD scattered them abroad from there over the face of all the earth, and they ceased building the city. Therefore its name is called Babel, because the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them…” (Genesis 10-11)

Paul singled out all Cretans as a distinct ethnic group meriting special treatment and rebuke:

“A prophet of their own said, ‘Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.’” (Titus 1:12)

The humanist understanding of reconciliation seeks to destroy group solidarity in Church and society. Humanists think they can mix people up indiscriminately, but this is a pagan heresy. True reconciliation in Christ brings about the One Body, the ‘household of faith.’ It does not create a new non-ethnic, non-capitalist, non-sexist humanity. Rather, Biblical reconciliation creates a multi-ethnic, dual-gender, multi-denominational Body. Each individual remains in his/her group and loves and respects those in other gender, language, and ethnic groups just as he loves and respects his own group! “Group” is not evil! Every time the Church or the State try to enforce a visible non-group unity, it leads to an oppressive, centralised system which enforces uniformity by coercing all into a one language, one culture, one tradition mode. Such a unity is actually rebellion against God. It is Man trying to be wiser than God, just as he has tried ever since he first ate the forbidden fruit.

Mankind has always tried to restore Babel (Revelation 13; 17) and is doing so now. Only the mighty Gospel proclamation of Jesus Christ is the answer. By the time Christ returns, “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14) His Kingdom, which began small as a tiny mustard seed, is growing into a huge tree under which all peoples, nations, and tongues shall find their rest. (Matthew 13; Daniel 2:35, 44-45).

“I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.” (Daniel 7:13-14)

All mankind , not every individual, but every group, will be saved. (Romans 11:11-12, 15)

“Blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: ‘The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; for this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins.” (Romans 11:25-26)

“Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: ‘For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles, and sing to Your name.’ And again he says: ‘Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people!’” (Romans 15:8-12)

The true reconciliation is this:

“God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19) (John 3:17)

“For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” “For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith… as it is written, ‘I have made you a father of many nations.’” (Romans 4:13-14, 17)

Christ will return when all the peoples are discipled (Matt.28:18-20) and reconciled to God:

God says: “Ask of Me, and I will give you the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession… Now therefore be wise, O kings, be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son…” (Psalm 2) - “All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before You.” (Psalm 22:27 - see also Romans 11)
