BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES FOR EVERYDAY ISSUES

The American Reformed theologian, Rousas Rushdoony, wrote: "Law is in every culture religious in origin. Because law governs man and society, because it establishes and declares the meaning ofjustice and rightcousness, law is inescapably religious, in that it establishes In practical fashion the ultimate concerns of a culture. Accordingly, a fundamental and necessary premise in any and every study of law must be, first, a recognition of this religious nature of law. Second, it must be recognized that in any culture the source of law is the god of that society... Modem humanism, the religion of the state, locates law in the state and makes... the people... the god of the system. As Mao Tse-Tung has said, "Our God is none other than the masses of the Chinese people." In Western culture, law has steadily moved away from God to the people (or the state) as its source, although the historic power and vitality of the West has been in Biblical faith and law. (The Institutes of Biblical Law, pp. 4-5)

To counter, then, the humanistic inroads into our law, let us remind ourselves of God's Law. What does the Bible say about the everyday issues of today?

HUMANISM

Is a religion which rejects God as the ultimate authority and, instead, makes autonomous man the measure of all things.
Genesis 3 - The serpent said to the woman (Eve), "Did God really say, You must not eat...?' -"You will not surely die... you will be like God, knowing good and evil. " When the woman saw that the tree was... desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband... Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realised they were naked."
Proverbs 14:12; 16:25 -"There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death."
Psalm 14:1 -"The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.
Romans 1:25 -"They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator... God gave them over to shameful lusts... Since they did not think it worth while to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done."

UNITED NATIONSAND WORLD PEACE:

Psalm 127:1 -"Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labour in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain?"
Isaiah 2:24 -"In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it. Many peoples will come and say, 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.' The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many people. They will beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore."
Isaiah 56:7 -"My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations."
Revelation 18:4 -"Then I heard another voice from heaven say: 'Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues."

Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: 'Ah, I will get relief from my foes and avenge myself on my enemies. 1 will turn my hand against you; 1 will thoroughly purge away your dross and remove all your impurities. "'
Deuteronomy 25:13-16 -"Do not have two differing weights in your bag - one heavy, one light. Do not have two differing measures in your house ? one large, one small.
